International Law

Although geo-political conflicts have lessened the power of international law, it can still significantly influence or atleast inform the domestic laws of a state. The United Nations has many resources on AI ethics and UNESCO has published widely discussed AI competency frameworks for teachers and students in education.

Both the USA and China seem to have pulled back their regulatory plans as local AI firms race to win global market share. Yet both approach AI policy through critically different political and economic lens. We may have a clearer idea of their regulatory intents, as AI adoption accelerates across regions in 2026. The EU has a comparatively cautious approach towards AI. Its unclear whether the EU approach would influence other states, as we saw with GDPR regulation. Regardless, the varied approaches of these global powers may very well be the templates for many countries in the future.
